The impact of climate change on the world has become a major challenge in the poultry industry. Heat stress is one of the most vital environmental factors affecting a wide range of poultry production, affecting the rate of growth, egg production, and physiological status, leading to huge economic losses. The high temperature affects the physiological, behavioral and immunological response of the chicks, which causes negative consequences such as endocrine disorder, inhibiting immunity, and the imbalance of electrolysis that diminishes profitability. Poultry producers usually face heat stress challenges either seasonal or throughout the year. A range of intervention approaches to alleviate heat stress conditions in poultry include the inclusion of feed additives (e.g., minerals, vitamins, phytochemicals, etc.) in the diet and drinking water. Adding additional minerals and vitamins to drinking water and feed is also useful and has become a common practice in hot regions. Minerals and vitamins provide birds with great benefits that correct the physiological dysfunctions associated with heat stress. Phytochemical supplementation can improve the antioxidant system, immunity and intestinal barrier integrity, and decrease heat-stressed damage. The current review will be useful to poultry producers to boost the general productivity and health status of heat-stressed poultry by enhancing the immune response, and oxidative status and thereby mitigate the harmful effects of increasing the temperature of the environment in particular under the growing global warming crisis. Thus, this review highlights the use of nutritional approaches in mitigating heat stress.
