Abstract

The presented study was conducted to investigated the effect of vaginal and uterine pH on the growth of ovarian follicles of dairy Friesian cows. Thirty Friesian anestrus cows (Postpartum ovarian inactivity) were used and were divided into three groups (10 each). The uterus of cows in the two groups was washing with pH buffer solution, 6 for 1st group, 8 for 2nd group, and 3rd group not washing and kept as a control group. All groups were subjected to a Cosynch+progesterone protocol to induce estrus, and ultrasound scanning, and blood samples were taken at various intervals. The study found that adjusting the pH level had no significant effect on ovarian follicle development, but did have a significant effect on the rate and growth of dominant follicles in the acidic groups. Finally, adjusting the pH level to 6ncreased the ovulation rate and decreased ovulation time due to its effect on the growth of dominant follicles.
